Recapping the Home Opener, part 2

I covered a lot of it last night, but I had a few additional thoughts about it that I said I would share.

The penalty shot was cool only because we don't get to see those too often. I think it took about 2 seconds for it to sink in for most of the crowd that that goal was also Heatley's third of the night. Then the hats started to fly.

There was a spontaneous chant of "DANY HEATLEY" sometime between the goal and when the hats were finally all removed from the ice.

A paper airplane is not a hat.

Despite assurances to the contrary, Mina was quite certain that if Heatley hadn't been pulled down on the play, his shot would have missed. That would have left Joe with the team record tying four assists he had on the night.

While I both understand a respect the decision to not have any fan fare what so ever for the unfurling of the new banners, I wish they said something before doing it because I nearly missed it. And again, while I see where they're coming from, I did still want to see them drop.

I'll say it again, "Where is Joe Ike!?" UPDATE: NOOO! They frakking fired him!

At some point Drew stuck his head out of one of the upper boxes behind and to the left of us. The crowd went wild.

I was wondering if JR was sitting in his seat wondering why we were booing Seto during the introductions. We don't boo him, we say "Gooooooooocchhhhh", but it seemed to confuse JR a lot last year. To be fair, it does have a pretty similar sound to it.

Conversations you kinda want to see the end of, but you also want to get back to your seats before intermission ends: "It's not like I was sitting like this!"



Just add a Mike's Hard lemonade and give that deer a surly drunken look and you'll get the idea. The usher wasn't buying it but I give her points for not cracking up as the drunken party in question nearly toppled over during her demonstration. (for those who don't know, leaning forward is verboten. The seat placement makes it so leaning obstructs the view of the people behind you.They even announce this sometime in the first, and yet, people still lean.)

Afro and I discussed how similar Dany Heatley's arrival here has been the JR's. Everyone knows I love JR, but even I was worried when I heard we'd acquired him. Sure, he's great, but will he be more of a liability than a boon? I've had the same reservations about Heatley, though I said before he came, If he's a Shark, I will happily cheer for him. I'm still formulating my own opinion of him, but scoring goals is a quick way to win over fans in nearly any city.

Wednesday WCF recap

Huh, no games today. The Lost season finale was last Wednesday, guys!

Guess we'll recap.

Hard loss for the Hawks last night.
Brian Campbell had a costly turn over against the Wings and that caused the fat lady to sing. This after fighting their way back to tie the game in third, and looking pretty threatening. I thought the Hawks ad a good chance to win it, but overtime is all about who makes the first mistake. Hopefully the Hawks can get a win or two in their building, and tie this series up. If not, it might be a very short trip to the WCF for them.

In non hockey news, this tribute blog to Where the Wild Things Are has some AWESOME art. I would hang Water Thing and Shadows on my wall.

I only mention it because it's got some awesome stuff and I know a few hockey fans who are eagerly awaiting the release of this film. It apparently is scaring the kiddies, so we'll see what happens to it.

This isn't the best game to post this during but, in case you still haven't voted for the all-star game, Devin Setoguchi has some advice for you below. (I'll adjust the stats later to match his current totals. Those are old stats folks! He's good! Vote for him!)



Post game:

Boom. Poke Check. Game ends 3-2 Sharks over Kings in the shoot out.

The Sharks now have 52 points on the season. Let that sink in for a moment.

Penalties were a tad one sided, in my opinion. The Sharks were 1 for 1 on the PP. Jamie Baker took credit for the lack of calls in the Sharks favor. Apparently he ran into the officials before the game and jokingly asked for a quick game, because the Sharks have a long flight to Columbus. He got what he asked for, although, I felt like the lack of calls in favor of the Sharks made the game feel a tad longer at times. Or maybe that was all the calls going against the Sharks. Or their slow start. Or all of the above.

Patty and Clowe have the regulation goals for the Sharks. Greene and Purcell had the two regulation tallies for the Kings. Clowe gets the shoot out winning goal.

Ryane Clowe is awesome.

Grier had another awesome chance and didn't quite connect. One of these games, he'll do it.

Three Stars: Boosh, Greene, Patty Marleau.

Super good effort by the Kings. In a few years, we're going to really dread games against these guys. They were dominate in the first. Pretty even second and a messy third by both teams.

Kings goalie Ersberg left after suffering a lower body injury while making a save. Get better soon, mr. goalie, sir.

Post Game:

Sharks lose 3-2 in OT. I'm not doing much of a recap for this one as I was either out or working for most of the game.

Roloson was the deciding factor in this game. He kept his team in it and helped them get the win. Shades of Ellis keeping the Preds to win in OT in it a few weeks back. The Sharks win streak ends at nine, but they have still yet to lose at home in regulation.
