In Which Gray Gets Bored and Draws a Shark

copyright 2008. Let's try to not spread this around the interwebs, folks.

A dip pen, ink and a camera will save you when you're tired of work and looking for momentary excitment.

I like it!

My technique lately has been sharpie on computer paper, taken to a scanner, cleaned and colored in MS Paint, and layered and arranged in MS Powerpoint.

That shark should have a logo on his jersey, I think. Maybe Joe Thornton's face biting through a hockey stick?

I usually sketch things in ball point pen, or pencil, scan it and clean it up (re-draw) in Photoshop or The Gimp. This time I took a sketch and transfered it to nicer paper, then inked it with a bamboo pen. The cartoon I posted earlier this week was done with a G pen nib, some cheap water color pencils and a bit of white gouache.

You're right, he should have a logo. I'll have to work on a caricature of Joe because that idea is hilarious.

I have no idea what these words mean:

The Gimp, G pen nib, bit of white gouache

...but it sure sounds artsy!

I'm just a hack, but I do like your results. Maybe I need a bit of gouache or a little more G pen.

Sorry, my art school was showing. Let me stuff that behind the couch...

I encourage anyone with an interest in drawing to try different things. Dip pens are a fun, though somewhat messy, way to draw. They take some getting used to but it's worth it, imo. If you ever decide to try it out, I'd be happy to give you way too much information on ink, pen nibs and paper.
